Have you ever felt like a square peg trying to fit into a round hole? I know I have!
For years I felt that it was me that must be wrong as I always felt different, as though I had to make an effort to understand the priorities and rules of the society in which I was living. I still remember my first yoga holiday; telling my partner I finally felt ‘at home’ with other people who thought like I did!! I read a great explanation earlier..that if you plant a rhodedendron in limey soil, it will initially appear to cope & maybe even thrive. However in time leaves will start to yellow and it will slowly die. Planted in the right soil it can thrive, flower and become a beautiful addition to a garden.
I have felt this myself and seen it happen to others. However hard we try to fit into what is expected of us, we don’t really flourish. To truly flower and thrive we need to have our roots in an area which suits us. Different environments suit different people and what your family or friends feel is appropriate for your future may be their desire and not yours.
For me, personally, I now wake every day with a smile. I have found my environment where it is acceptable to just be me. A place I can explore what makes me happy from a secure base. If our roots are deep and content then we are able to thrive and grow further.
