I could write more of a rant than a blog at times when I think about new year resolutions & how people seem to set themselves up for failure with resolutions involving changes in lifestyle, body image or mind set. It is more positive to make small changes more often. To think of each rung of the ladder and not just about reaching the top…
I wanted to share how I have changed through the years as I have discovered myself through yoga practice. I find that yoga practiced with focus on the Ujjayi breath in gentle asana (postures) & vinyasa (sequences) in itself has deepened me! It’s heightened my internal senses, to how my body relates to space, subtley of movement, & increased my empathy. It has become my place of refuge, my safe place to play physically & with the breath. I try to do a daily practice, sometimes short & neat & sometime freestyle flow, always time for pranayama, however simple, and meditation if it feels right.
One of my new years resolutions is to meditate more. Silly as it sounds…I’ve a timer on my phone but it sometimes seems disrespectful to the art of meditation to use that when I would find a neat, soft, timed chime of sorts. I’ve looked around and at moment I haven’t found any at what I could presently afford for a totally unnecessary meditation prop. unless one could be intregrated into class planning? umm
maybe 2 separate new year resolution lists…
1. new years resolutions for 2011 onward
2. Life is for living, loving & exploring. This can provide me with a list of potential fancies, needs, wants, things to save toward such as holidays, selling car …… basically a to do list! On which I know will be included learning to dance..the Corec style sounds fun but it just tends to overlap with my teaching hours so maybe something else. I also want to learn the drums, just enough to play for fun…
It’s always going to be the things we missed out on or were too scared to try, which are the ones we will regret when we look back over our life. Quality of life is a combination of factors & in my opinion learning new skills, expanding social circles, having more self belief & having fun are important. I want to try or learn one new thing every day- however small. It could be a new word to integrate into my everyday speech or a hobby or a skill gained or practiced.
